AFC and IDES partners serving hot meals to families in need

AFC × IDES Partnership

Compassion in the crisis.
Christ in the story.

For years, Asians for Christ and IDES have worked together to bring practical relief and the love of Jesus to families facing disaster, displacement, poverty, and war across Southeast Asia and China.

Chapter 01 — Partnership

When disaster comes,
the Church draws near.

AFC's long-standing field relationships and IDES' commitment to disaster relief have given us something rare in missions — a way to move quickly when communities are at their most vulnerable. Through trusted local pastors and ministry partners, aid reaches families inside the hardest places to serve.

The pattern is simple and slow: show up, listen, help, stay. Year after year, that pattern has carried both bread and the Gospel into villages across Southeast Asia and China.

Years of partnership

A walk through the chapters of the AFC × IDES partnership — disaster by disaster, village by village.

    Chapter 02 — Earthquake

    2025

    Myanmar earthquake response.

When the earthquake struck near Mandalay, homes collapsed and whole neighborhoods were left without water, shelter, or food. AFC's field network mobilized within days, distributing hot meals, supplies and care alongside local believers.

The partnership with IDES made this rapid response possible — and the work continues, week after week, as recovery turns into long-term rebuilding and gospel witness in places forever changed.

    Chapter 03 — Displacement

    2024

    Refugee & crisis response.

Conflict along the Myanmar–China border drove families into trenches and forest shelters with little more than what they could carry. AFC partners crossed difficult terrain to bring rice, tarps, blankets and the steady presence of the church.

The same year, typhoons and floods battered Thailand and Vietnam — Bo Wang, Cheng Yang and countless others received help through IDES-funded relief that AFC carried into the rural communities others could not reach.

  3. Flooded village and damaged homes in the aftermath of regional flooding

    Chapter 04 — The Waters

    2023

    Flood relief in Laos.

Seasonal flooding swept through northern Laos in 2023, destroying rice crops and pushing already fragile Khmu communities to the edge. Whole villages woke to muddy water under their floorboards and roads washed away overnight.

Through AFC's trusted relationships and IDES' emergency funding, food, clean water, and rebuilding support reached families when government aid was slow or absent.

    Chapter 05 — Expansion

    2022

    Humanitarian outreach expands.

As borders reopened, the work widened. Clothing distributions, food parcels, and village-level support reached deeper into Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and the remote border communities where outsiders rarely come.

IDES support gave AFC's field teams the runway to serve people who had long been overlooked — small Khmu, Hmong and hill-tribe villages where one bag of rice can carry a family through a hard month.

  5. Food relief boxes being prepared during the pandemic

    Chapter 06 — Pandemic

    2020

    COVID relief across Southeast Asia.

When lockdowns shuttered villages and cut day-labor families off from their daily wage, AFC and IDES moved quickly together — pooling resources to put rice, oil, and basic provisions into the hands of those with nothing left in the pantry.

Aid went out through trusted local pastors and ministry partners, reaching households without regard to religion or ethnicity. For many, it was the first time the local church had quietly knocked on their door carrying food and prayer.
